This stop belongs after Asimov because it shows delegated judgment escaping the laboratory and corporate frame. Platform Governance becomes central: identity, media, networks, and interfaces are no longer background systems but the terrain where machine agency acts.

4. The Diamond Age

Stephenson makes AI formative. Manfred, Pamela, Amber, Sirhan, Manni, Aineko, uploaded lobster ganglia, KGB dot RU AI, Microsoft plasmids, the alien router, computronium, watchdog timers, reinstantiation, the Vile Offspring, and the Turing Oracle show human institutions becoming local adaptations inside a larger machine ecology.

This follows Snow Crash because platform dependence becomes species-scale displacement. Identity, family, property, memory, personhood, and settlement all become interfaces inside systems faster and wider than ordinary sovereignty can manage.

7. VC

VC brings the path back to present institutional selection. Venture capital is not AI, but it helps decide which technical possibilities become platforms. Tom Nicholas's history of long-tail finance, limited partnerships, fund governance, IPO channels, military procurement, Silicon Valley networks, and reputation gatekeeping shows how technical uncertainty becomes investable judgment.

This belongs after Accelerando because posthuman scale needs a near-term gatekeeper. Capital Allocation and Chokepoints and Gateways decide which teams, standards, and interfaces get enough money and legitimacy to become infrastructural.

8. Zero to One

End with Zero to One because Thiel makes the political economy of technical futures explicit. Proprietary technology, network effects, monopoly, distribution, secrets, founder alignment, power laws, and the "Man and Machine" chapter all frame startups as institutions built to create and control new categories. The book is most useful here when read critically: it clarifies why builders seek platform positions and why delegated judgment often arrives through monopoly strategy.

This final stop follows VC because it gives the founder-side ideology of the same system. The path ends by showing that AI sovereignty is not only a speculative problem.
